Photography Final - Nicole Genoni
Nicole Genoni was born in 1987 and is now based in Milan. She graduated from University of Milan in European Economics. She later enrolled in the biennial professional course at the Italian Institute of Photography in Milan. She originally worked in Human Resources in a multinational corporation, until she realised she wanted to turn her hobby of photography into a full time job. Since then, she has been a freelance photographer and has taken pictures for companies such as Coca Cola, Babybel, and Netflix.
My artist takes still life photography. Her work is similar to Jo Bradney, especially his painting Sweet Temptation (can click for image). Both of their art shows lots of light and food. Nicole uses natural light to show a sense of cheeriness, and Jo uses lighter paint for the same effect. Nicole also uses leading lines, distance, and movement to make your eyes see the whole piece.
Nicole’s work puts off a bright and happy feeling. Her work is made to show the beauty in food and to have appreciation. Not enough people are thankful for the food they have. Nicole really shows the amazingness in food and makes you thankful for what you have. Her work has lots of different connections such as personal and social, but over all her work displays happiness.
Nicole’s photography strongly influenced my work. I used her concept of natural light and took pictures with new and interesting angles. Her work really made me think about the way I could use food to tell a story and portray a sense of lightness. When taking my pictures I referred back to her’s many times, to make sure they looked similar. I wanted my work to be similar to her’s, but have it’s own flair.

Her Work
My images are similar yet very different from Nicole’s. I feel like I captured the bright and cheeriness of her images, and kept interesting angles. On the other hand, I did not have all the materials as her. In my picture with the mason jar I did not have enough jars, yogurt, and other accessories to make it look like hers. Overall, I think my photos looked liked hers, but also had my own personal flair.
I really liked my end result of my images. I incorporated leading lines, shape, distance, and lots of colors. I had a very hard time getting the shadows right and making sure enough natural light was coming through. I did have a really fun time setting up my images and taking them. In conclusion, I like my end result and would love to take more photos like hers. |
